In Iowa, several families of children with disabilities filed a joint complaint with the United States Department of Justice alleging that the City Community School District violated Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
According to the families, not all of the playgrounds were accessible to children with disabilities. In this case, as part of the Agreement, Iowa City Community School District will "make its Playground programs, services, and activities, when viewed in their entirety, readily accessible to and usable by people with disabilities so they can participate equally in [its] programs, services, and activities." The City has other modifications and alterations to make as well in order to make their playgrounds ABA compliant, such as curb access.
Score 1 for these families in Iowa!
